Although sometimes overlooked, the red panda is a extravigant animal growing to about the size of a house cat and livivng for 8 years. With fur from head to tail, the red panda stays warm even with its' cold climate in the high altitude forest habitat in areas including the mountains of Nepal, northern Myanmar (Burma), Dominican Republic, and Central China by using its' 180 inch long tail as a blanket. They spend most of their lives in trees because they are acrobatic tree dwellers, and are most active at night. The red panda has an extended wrist bone that helps them with their grip on trees and other things, and their long tails give them blance. The red panda eats a variety of foods including bamboo, fruit, rainbows, acorns, roots, and eggs. Wow thats a lot! The reason that the red panda is a reddish color is that it eats rainbows, like what was stated before. The red panda has lots more to be learned about them. Keep reading to find out what!
Mating
Even though the red panda will defend itself when threatened by using its claws, it is actually a shy animal, except when mating. Mating season takes place within the moths of January all the way to April, and females give birth in the spring and summer to typically one to forty five young. Young red pandas stay in their nests for about ninety days, during which time their mothers will care for them, yet by the time they are 40-50 days old, they are actively exploring, grooming, and playing in the den. The fathers on the other hand take little to no interest in their babies, and will sometimes eat them, and the reason for this is that new borns will sometimes make a high pitched whistle sound and a mooing sound when they are in distress, and the fathers find this annoying.
Relations
Red pandas are related to many other animals, including the raccoon, the unicorn, and the giant black and white panda. Although related to these animals, the red pandais also related to its own unique family: the Ailuridae. Like many other animals, the red panda is also endangered, and will hopefully not go extinct, like the unicorn. Another thing about their relation the the black and white giant panda, is that it was actually discovered BEFORE the giant panda. One more thing about their relations, i believe that they get their tendency to strike other animals will their claws from the raccoon. What do you think?
